Tata Motors launches Freelander 2 in India

It can't be easy trying to launch a new model in a country with a 100% import tariff but the job is not made much easier when you look at the other vehicles that are also available in the same market.

For 3,500,000 rupees (around £45,000 or the price of a small flat in Bangalore) you can get the same spec Freelander 2 as sold in the US and EU. But other SUVs are available for less than half that cost from the likes of Hyundai and Toyota.

India is seen as an important market by all motor manufacturers as more traditional local markets continue to contract (and as more strict rules on safety and emissions come online) Hopefully Land Rover, under the expert guidance of the TATA parent company, will be able to take advantage of this.
